instead of having all of your site's images as separate little images and, therefore, separate little downloads, you put them all on one image so there is only one (preloaded) download of your images and you are off, my amigo.

Sound odd? well, it is. Sorta. I'm going to make a long list. Each list item is going to have a completely un-semantic class. each class is going to have a different icon. so:

</ul>
...etc...
